Gaydos Announces Grants to First Responders in the 44th District
HARRISBURG – Fire and emergency response organizations in the 44th Legislative District have been awarded $151,026 in grants from the state, Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) announced today.
The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). All funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, and not General Fund tax revenue.
“We need to do all we can to support our volunteer fire companies and emergency medical service (EMS) providers,” said Gaydos, a former emergency medical technician (EMT). “They keep us safe 24/7 and deserve this funding to ensure they have the equipment and training necessary to continue the important work of protecting lives and property.”
Grants awarded within the 44th District are:
• Aleppo Township Volunteer Fire Company - $14,423.
• Big Sewickley Creek Volunteer Fire Department - $13,840.
• Cochran Hose Company - $16,952.
• Crescent Township Volunteer Fire Department - $13,840.
• Imperial Volunteer Fire Department - $16,757.
• Leetsdale Fire Department - $14,034.
• Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company - $15,201.
• North Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department - $15,979.
• Quaker Valley Ambulance Authority (EMS) - $15,000.
• Valley Ambulance Authority (EMS) - $15,000.
Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training or reduction of existing debt.
All companies that apply and meet requirements outlined by OSFC receive funding. Companies must file a grant agreement with OFSC by July 1 to receive their grants.
