HARRISBURG — Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) today announced the release of $1 million in state funds toward the development of the Pittsburgh Airport Innovation Campus – Phase Two in Findlay Township.

Gaydos advocated for the funding through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project (RACP) program.

“This is a fabulous example of turning space that was once a part of Pittsburgh’s old economy into the region’s new economy to attract and retain talent in science and technology,” said Gaydos. “I applaud the efforts of all of the parties who worked very hard to make this project happen and to be a part of building Pittsburgh’s future economy through what is expected to be the world’s smartest airport.”

The project is a 195-acre site located near the entrance to the Pittsburgh International Airport. Once completed, coal mines will be removed, mine spoils appropriately handled, a new road installed and grading completed for future development. The project will result in the construction of multiple shovel-ready building sites with all utilities for office, research and development, a hotel with convention space and corporate hangers.

Funding for the project was authorized by lawmakers in the Capital Budget Project Itemization Act.

RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. These projects have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
