MOON TOWNSHIP – Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) today announced $44,325.56 in Safe Schools Grants have been awarded to three school districts in the 44th District by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
“School budgets are tight, but security and safety improvements and investments are critical to ensure a successful learning environment,” said Gaydos. “These grants are an important investment in our kids’ safety and one of my top priorities.”
School districts receiving funding include:
• West Allegheny School District – Safe Schools Equipment Grant, $19,959.56.
• Quaker Valley School District – Safe Schools Equipment Grant, $24,366.
Safe Schools Equipment Grants assist schools in reducing unnecessary student disciplinary actions and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning. In addition, the funding assists schools in procuring the resources and training necessary to create a physical environment that fosters the safety and well-being of students and staff.
PDE’s Office for Safe Schools offers four types of safety grants: equipment grants of up to $25,000; program grants of up to $20,000; School Police Officer (SPO) grants of up to $40,000; and School Resource Officer (SRO) grants of up to $60,000.
Questions about this or any legislative issues may be directed to Gaydos’ office at 412-262-3780.
