HARRISBURG – Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) today strongly opposed Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato’s proposal for a 46.5% property tax hike, the largest increase in recent memory. Gaydos issued the following statement:
“No more tax increases! This is an outrageous burden on Allegheny County residents and businesses. In the middle of high inflation when families are already struggling to make ends meet, raising property taxes by nearly 50% is unacceptable.
“This tax hike punishes homeowners, especially seniors on fixed incomes and families with young children. A property tax increase will drive even more families and businesses out of the county. Instead of working to cut waste and control spending, the county executive is choosing to put an even heavier financial burden on the shoulders of hard-working residents.
“I urge Allegheny County Council to reject the Innamorato proposal and find real solutions that do not involve gouging property owners.”
Gaydos emphasized her commitment to finding more pragmatic solutions that focus on improving efficiency, cutting waste and creating policies that brings more people and more businesses to the region, not chase them away.
“We can and should focus on lowering the tax burden and promoting economic growth without sacrificing essential services.”
