Gaydos Announces State Grants to Support Local Priorities

HARRISBURG - Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) today announced more than $2.5 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grants have been approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support infrastructure improvements, economic development, public safety and community projects across Allegheny County.

Local Share Account grants are funded through gaming revenues under Act 71 of 2004 and are used to support economic development, community improvement and other projects that enhance the quality of life for Pennsylvania residents.

“These grants are an important investment in the future of our area,” said Gaydos. “Taxpayer dollars should be used wisely to address real needs, strengthen communities and make sure infrastructure can keep pace with the demands placed on it. I’m pleased to see these investments coming back to the 44th District and helping us move forward.”

Gaydos worked with Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-Allegheny) to secure the funding.

Since being sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives in January of 2019, Gaydos has helped to secure nearly $120 million for the 44th Legislative District.

The approved Allegheny County projects include:

• Aleppo Township Authority - $40,700 to improve the 79 North-Deer Run Sewage Pump Station by installing a protective polyurea lining system inside the wet well to prevent further corrosion and extend the life of the facility. LSA funds will be used for construction and engineering costs.
• Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority, on behalf of Pittsburgh Botanic Garden - $639,271 to install a perimeter fence and related improvements around 100 interior acres of the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden’s 460-acre property in North Fayette Township. The project also includes new vehicle and pedestrian gates, electrical improvements, paving and a new entrance sign. LSA funds will be used for construction, engineering and administrative costs.
• Bell Acres Borough - $33,673 to conduct a geotechnical engineering exploration of a landslide along Sevin Road. The work will include test borings, surveying, sampling and slope stability analysis to identify potential repair options and determine the best path forward. LSA funds will be used for engineering and administrative costs.
• Crescent Township - $100,000 to pave several township roadways, including Work Street, Front Street, Keim Street, Main Street, Mill Street, Cherry Alley, Ferry Street, Laurel Ridge Drive, Purdy Road and Parkwood Point Drive. The project includes milling, paving, base repairs as needed and line striping. LSA funds will be used for construction, engineering and administrative costs.
• Findlay Township - $500,000 to upgrade and expand the Potato Garden Wastewater Treatment Plant. Improvements will include a new influent pump station, grit removal facilities, sequencing batch reactors, an aerobic digester and other treatment and effluent improvements designed to reduce bypasses, improve treatment efficiency and support future residential and business development. LSA funds will be used for construction costs.
• Leet Township - $150,000 to make stormwater improvements around Chaucer Court and surrounding areas. The project will retrofit two existing stormwater basins and improve drainage to reduce flooding, erosion, sedimentation and property damage. LSA funds will be used for construction and engineering costs.
• Leetsdale Borough - $91,300 to purchase a new top-loader leaf vacuum to replace failing equipment used in the borough’s leaf collection and recycling program. The new equipment will improve safety and efficiency while supporting the borough’s recycling efforts and intermunicipal agreements with neighboring communities. LSA funds will be used for equipment purchase costs.
• Moon Township - $250,000 to renovate the Moon Township Park amphitheater and office building. The project includes upgrades to the amphitheater, renovations to the existing park office and construction of an addition to accommodate the growing number of public events and visitors. LSA funds will be used for construction and engineering costs.
• Quaker Valley Council of Governments, on behalf of Glen Osborne Borough - $200,000 to replace or rehabilitate a deteriorating stone retaining wall along Beaver Road. The approximately 320-foot wall supports Sycamore Road and a nearby property, and the project will also address necessary utility relocations and traffic protection. LSA funds will be used for construction costs.
• Sewickley Heights Borough - $200,000 to stabilize an active landslide along Barberry Road and restore the roadway. The project includes soil nails, reinforced shotcrete and a stabilization wall to prevent further movement and return the road to productive use. LSA funds will be used for construction, engineering and administrative costs.
• Sewickley Water Authority - $150,000 to replace approximately 2,035 feet of aging water main along Beaver Street with new PVC pipe, along with new hydrants, valves and related improvements. The project will improve system efficiency and reliability while reducing the need for future repairs. LSA funds will be used for construction and engineering costs.
• West View Water Authority - $150,000 to install approximately 3,600 feet of 12-inch water main connecting two dead-end lines near I-79. The new connection will improve water system capacity, reliability and fire protection in Sewickley Hills Borough and Ohio Township while providing additional system redundancy. LSA funds will be used for infrastructure, engineering and administrative costs.
